Routes Thru Roots: Nostalgia Running
I ran 11.2 miles through my hometown that I hadn't much visited in nearly 20 years. Let's see what's changed, what's the same, and how I feel about it.
From 1st grade through 10th grade, I lived in Owasso, Oklahoma. We moved in 2004 and I really hadn’t thought much about returning to visit.
Last forward about 19 years later (20 was a rounder number for the video thumbnail) and I’m turning 36 years old. And I’ve since taken up running—not only running but also a fascination with using running to explore places. So, I decided to explore where I spent many formative years much like I did then—on foot.
The result was finding just how little so much had changed from how I remembered it. From skateboarding spots to make-out spots, to my surprise, most are largely intact. But I know they won’t be forever, so this is where re-remembering comes into play.
I think exploring your past on foot is a pretty damn good exercise in healthy nostalgia and I highly recommend it. And I hope you enjoy the video, though I know you won’t as much as I did making it.
Wow! That brought back some great memories for your dear ‘ol dad, too!
Thanks for sharing.
